Post by xwhiteonrice on Fri May 22, 2009 5:33 pm

Would this be considered as a bum play?

You won't get any respect from people if you've got to use it to move the ball on offense. I think it's a bum play, but then again, I also know how easy it is to stop.

I think it is easy to stop but i agree with Troj if you run it a lot you get no respect.

Yea I agree with what you two said. If you run it once in a while its fine, but it's annoying when people run it as their primary running play.

Really, I think it depends on what the other person is doing. Are they dumb enough to be running the same exact defensive play EVERY play? Here's what I did to IMSOHOOODTEX last night:

    Rushing attempts for 20 18
    Rushing yards for 96 99
    Passing attempts for 19 13
    Passing yards for 222 134

I mixed in the HB direct (around 8-10 of those runs), HB draw, the speed option, and corner routes against him. Why did I run HB direct so much? He runs the same exact defensive play every time, but he'll position his guys a little differently if he thinks something is coming. I'd hit him with a few corner routes so he'd take his CB at LB to try to cover them, then I'd hit him with a HB direct for around 6-7 yards. Doing that I think there would be no problem.

If you're running it constantly (like if I had 18 of those runs being HB direct against someone who ran different defenses, then I guess it's considered a bit of a bum play).

To run the clock out and the opponent can't stop it, personally I see that as no problem; if the person KNOWS it's coming, and they can't stop it, I don't think that should be a problem.

Personally any formation in the beginning of the game I know has HB direct, I run a play almost specifically meant for that, slanting my men in the direction it's going; a LOT of times it's a HB direct they're running.

This is subjective. An argument can be made either way. If the other guy isn't doing anything to stop it, then why stop? On the other hand, why would you want to do the same play over and over? Doesn't that just get boring after a while? I know it does for me when I face some idiot that wants to Quarter Show Blitz the whole game and all I have to do is run FB/HB dive the entire time.

I have nothing against that play specifically...just anybody that does only 1-4 plays on offense.

thats what i was thinking too.
i was playing some guy named Ese Cholo and on his profile his tendency to blitz was 8 percent and the play he used most was cover 2 out of the 4-3 defense spread line. He usered his MLB and wasnt the greatest at it so i ran hb direct in the last quarter to waste clock but also used speed option from a different formation and hb slant to mix it up but he paused the game and said it was a bum play and i said "y because u cant stop it?" and he just went on about how it was a bum play. Oh and i love how he called it a bum play when i ran it up the middle while he was in quarter d spread line loose coverage lol

Fiveyardsack runs HB Direct and HB Screen (either throwing deep or to HB). He also glitched PrimexTime44 the other night so beware. To get back to the topic though, in my many years experience online, you should turn the table on these bums and run it on them. I guarantee you that when you have huge gains with this play, they will pause the game and call you out for it. Then, simply tell them that you are just doing what they are doing, and watch what happens.

I'm real pissed that the FIU playbook doesn't have any HB direct. It's a great PB with just about everything I want, the 2 things missing are HB direct and the speed option out of ace big. It's an easy play that gets solid yardage constantly and if you are not ready for it, it can go for big gains. Mixing in HB direct and QB choice can be deadly because the opponent doesn't know which side the run is going.

samardjia used HB direct a lot on me the 1st time we played a long time ago, especially in goalline but the last few times we played he didn't use it all.

speaking of imsohoood, it's always weird when I play people like that who are real good at some stuff but make you wonder about others. On offense he does a great job using his QB and getting thru the holes in the line, but refuses to use ANY formation that isn't ace big and on defense runs the same play out of the same formation every... single... time. I found a play that gashed him for 8+ yards every time and he did nothing different other than to take his CB and try to cover one of my TEs (I was in twin TE out of SG 4 WR). Same thing with UNT75, he has strong user skills and calls smart plays a lot but then sometimes makes you scratch your head. Played him today, he had a 3rd and 4 in my territory at my ~45 and got in I form, I was in 4-3 and he hands off to the FB. Later he had a 3rd and 12 and tried a WR reverse out of SG. Any experienced player knows that these 2 plays almost never get good yards.

Imsohooodtex is the best person I've played at getting through the hole with Tebow. The key to stopping his option is mostly holding it to 5 yards and trying to strip him everytime you can. Now that I've got my offense a lot better, I can destroy his defense; SE drag with HB in the slot kills him. You can either hit the open TE, or the open HB; whichever he doesn't cover. Little boring running the same 2-3 plays against him, but since he only runs one play on defense....

He does go into a different formation here and there; he'll go into I-form tight to either FB dive or HB screen. Both stopped easily if you know it's coming (and he never chooses anything else). If he goes SG (very rarely) it's typically to throw a deep pass to someone. Held him to 14 points last night after he put up 49 on me earlier in the day. Depends on your strip luck. I'm only 2-7 against him, but I've had some dreadful luck against him..I dropped 10 passes (yes, 10) against him in the early game I played against him yesterday. I missed 15 passes the entire game. And 10 are drops. Mad

I agree with u and trojan...if the person is goin to consistently run the SAME defense against it then y not run it...if they are goin to be that dumb and just sit there and let u run it y not...but also it is very easy to stop if someone runs it against u so let a bum be a bum its whatever...i do know that it is in one of my playbooks and i ran it twice (TWICE) against NJo Prospect and he was like if u didnt have hb direct u would've never won...lolol that doesnt exempt the fact that i had over 400 yrds passing he had the nerve to say i wouldn't have passed if it hadnt of been for the thoought of HB direct lol but y do we play the game if a person knows ur passing or running...grantit we sometimes know or feel we know what one person is running but its all mind games so i laugh at someone who says things such as NJo LOL... but enough ranbling its a bum play if u run it as ur main play but always keep the D on their heels so pull the play out occasionally its in the playbook and its on the game y not be able to run it a couple of times...

Tex is the best I've played that can hit the hole with Tebow; doesn't just take the option outside like everyone else. But yeah, I have doubts he'll play me now also. He told me before this game "You blew me out last game".

Unfortunately, I don't think we can connect; we can try, I'd love to see how I can do against you.
