big time impressed with oregon!!! they seemed like they wanted it ALOT more than usc. i know your an offensive guy, but if your on the usc sidelines as a defensive guy, what do you try to do to slow down oregon more effectively??
i thot that they played NOT to give up a big play way to often rather than attacking like usc usually does. wich resulted in masoli getting out of the pocket and runnin, and it kept there secondary out of the box to help with the opt read run. usc's linebackers are WAY behind what they were last year.... they seemed NON EXISTANT. but anyways just wondering what your opinion is.

    ** game note **

i thot one of the biggest plays of that game was oregons 4th down conversion early in the 2nd half around mid field... it was a 4th and 3 i think... anyways usc had a good play call and had the Dtackle drop to flats and put a good hit on the oregon wr on a bubble screen, lol, he hit him hard enuff that it propelled him over the first down marker!!! that was one of the FEW chances we had at a stop and it could have really changed the game i thot. chime in on that to if you want.

from what i know of chip kelly's system... is that Masoli has 2 reads pre-snap based on formation alone...

he reads # in box and he reads the shell coverage... 1 deep/2 deep... that shell and then finding the SS/Rover will let him know if the SS has man coverage on a back...

by making these 2 reads there is the zone read and or the VERY quick screen they throw... which i love b/c its a quick stand up and catch behind the LOS so that all the OL can fire off to LB's... and create chaos...

ive said this many many many many times before... before you joined up on this site... chip kelly's offense when executed... CAN NOT be stopped consistently... period...

the thing that sucked about USC's loss for them was that they were forced into a TON of man coverage... forcing backers to try and contain Masoli who... lets not kid ourselves... is way better than he gets credit... with his feet/arm/brains... being forced into that man coverage makes alot of DB's play blind chasing routes... and backers responsible for spying a guy that executes picture perfect play fakes EVERY SINGLE PLAY... if you didnt watch that... next time pay attention... Oregon runs their run plays and play actions... IDENTICAL... never waiver... and its soooo tough to beat discipline like that b/c you have the sleeper syndrome... where you get lulled in to a trance of watching zone read, zone read, sweep give, zone read then POW ... PA pass over top or in seam...

i have heard a lot of people that i USED to respect in radio and such that talk about these spread option style offenses being a "fad" and something that will pass b/c DC's will pick up on how to beat it and develop this and that to counter it... but... im sorry... when you spread the field... and use every square inch sideline to sideline ALL THE TIME... then you MAY be a top 5 team... but you will wear down quickly and end up looking like an FCS school... i like urbans offense but chip kelly is in my opinion THE MOST UNDERATED football genius alive today... hands down... if chip kelly had floridas talent and ran that offense of his at oregon... seriously...

and i dont mean to sound like im tooting my teams horn or to sound like a "homer" blah blah blah... im telling truth... you saw it for yourself... when its ran the way it should be... there is no "answer" thats what is scary...

    good stuff man good stuff!!!!

probly the best way to slow down or stop that offence would be to have a GREAT d line....??? that could consistntly make the playys on the handoff, and option to free up the lb's and safetys more?? cus oregon made it pretty obvious that sending blitzs only creates more for them as an offence.

Watch the video but follow along with the freeze frames i took... it will show you what i saw when i watched the game...

    1st VIDEO

Here are 2 examples of the numbers game in the box... on both of these clips Masoli throws the quick screen which in essence becomes an extended handoff like a toss sweep outside of contain...

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter01nov050922

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter02nov050923

This was the ultimate example of what i was talking about with the effort of USC just being wore down and the mental fatigue that comes from trying to "read" their "read"... if that makes sense lol...

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter03nov050926

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter04nov050926

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter06nov050927

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter07nov050927

This was the biggest scramble of the night and its where i noticed that Pete was selling out for run WAY TOO MUCH with man coverage... although i know this was not designed QB draw... its a perfect example of why playing man against spreads like these are so tough with a run threat QB... and by this picture you can see what im talking about by the DB's "playing blind"... drew arrows to show you the direction their facing... and its obvious what comes next when you are watching the first video...

guru, if you have time..... Screenhunter08nov050931

i didnt break down any frames i took from the 2nd video b/c its not necessary once you see what im talking about in the 1st video it repeats itself all night...

i know this is something you dont want to watch as a fan of USC but as a fan of football itself... you have to admit... Chip Kelly is the BEST OC in college football... he still has to prove himself as HC... but as an OC... he is untouchable in his schematics and developing of his plays...

ya, i see what your sayin... and i see even more now how usc for 1) like i said earlier didnt seem like they wanted it as much and 2) maybe that was an effect from being one step behind oregons offence all night!!

    good stuff man... good stuff.

man, it made me mad seeing how poorly usc's lb's played!! i think that is one of the biggest reason's usc's defence has started to weaken the last 3 weeks. not taking anything away from oregon at all, they were unstoppable... its just frustrating as a fan.

yeah... running the zone reads and different schemes that Oregon runs with the speed that the Ducks have... it forces you to read on defense instead of attack... b/c blitzes when spread out are obvious and well it forces you to get 7 in the box and we all see what happens when 7 go to the box...
